WHAT IS REIKI?
Rei means universal and Ki means life force.
As my teacher Lorri Many Rivers Santamaria says, Reiki is the "same energy that causes the heart to beat, flowers to bloom, and the Earth to spin. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit."
Most simply, Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.
Reiki unlocks the body's natural healing system. An ability that has become fragmented and lost by much of humanity, and is slowly reemerging as a valued, respected, and even vital skill.
Reiki is high frequency, unencumbered, universal life force energy. A ubiquitous, non-physical, un-seen energy that flows through all of us from the moment we are conceived. Every body is a conduit of this energy. In this sense, it is free and accessible to everyone.
Reiki works in connection with all spiritual and religious traditions as it is not based on a belief structure or dogma. Reiki respects free will and flows where there is full permission of the body and spirit.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When I transmit Reiki, it is a practice of stepping beyond the personal ego and the limitations of the mind, into the ever-present flow of Unconditional Love and Light. Reiki energy descends with gravity through my crown, head, throat, heart, down my arms, and is then channeled through my hands. The person can receive the energy laying down or siting up, and with my hands placed on their physical body or hovering just above. I move from head to toe, attending to all major organs and the 8 chakras. The person receiving is guided to use their breath to support the movement of energy.
HOW CAN REIKI SUPPORT ME?
Reiki is a complementary alternative medicine that can reduce pain, insomnia, stress, and anxiety. Among other healing practices including meditation and breathwork, Reiki can activate the pituitary gland to release natural healing pharmaceuticals (e.g., serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, reduced cortisol) throughout the body resulting in stronger immune system responses and increased health.
The energy works on all 5 bodies, the physical, etheric, emotional/astral, mental/casual, spiritual/divine.
On a physical level, Reiki stimulates the nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, gastrointestinal, and immune systems to return the body to a state of homeostasis.
Activate your body's natural healing system
Relieve stress, anxiety, and worry
Increased sense of relaxation, peace, and ease
Stimulate your immune system
Support and accelerate the healing and recovery process
Relief from side effects
Reestablish homeostasis of the nervous system
Reconnect to spirit / source / oneness
Integration of body, mind, spirit
Healing of generational/ ancestral trauma
Those who work with me are also invited to connect to their own ancestral lineage(s) and/or spirit guides. Reiki, as Divine healing energy, acknowledges the generational and multi-dimensional nature of our existence. Reiki can assist us with transmuting dis-ease or generational traumas we may be carrying. As well as connect us to our wise and well ancestors who are able to support those who are less well in our lineage.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
For some, Reiki energy feels like a warm, tingling sensation that moves throughout the body. Some of what's possible during a session includes:
Hot and cold sensations
Involuntary movements + vibrations
Tingling, pins & needles
Emotional responses + clearings
Other dimensional visions and messages
Connection with ancestors, plants and animals
Tastes and smells
Deep dream-like states + falling asleep
Feeling spirit's touch
WHAT IS USUI REIKI?
Usui Reiki is named after Mikao Usui Sensei, who is honoured as the originator of the Usui Reiki Ryoho method, created around 1922. Nonetheless, the word Reiki had existed in the Japanese lexicon long before Usui Sensei used it, and others used Reiki energy as a healing system before him.
As written in the book The Spirit of Reiki, Reiki energy is defined as:
1. "The ability to perform Reiki comes from having received an attunement, rather than developing the ability over time through the use of meditation or other exercises.
2. All Reiki techniques are part of a lineage, meaning the technique has been passed from teacher to student through an attunement process, starting with [the founder of the technique].
3. Reiki does not require that one guides the energy with the mind, as it is guided by the higher power that knows what vibration or combination of vibrations [are needed by the client].
4. Reiki can do no harm."
WHAT IS HOLY FIRE® REIKI?
Holy Fire Reiki was introduced by William Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training in 2014. It is a potent, purifying energy that works continuously, and has been experienced to be an empowering, discerning force of transformation. Holy Fire Reiki differs from Usui in that it is considered to be a a higher consciousness energy, and more specifically defined. It can powerfully dissolve worry, anxiety, and stress, and offers a deeper inward gaze to access guidance and wisdom.
DISTANCE REIKI TREATMENTS
Reiki is not limited by time or space, allowing treatments to take place over a great distance. For some, distance sessions are even more robust than in-person. The person receiving is asked to find a quiet, warm, comfortable environment where they will not be disturbed. They may wish to set up an altar, light a candle, burn plants, or diffuse essential oils to create sacred space. The person is guided with breath and music to allow their mind to rest, and body to open as they receive Reiki energy.
REIKI IN THE WORLD
Reiki is currently being implemented with great success in hospice, hospitals, retirement and nursing homes, recovery centers, medical centers that support folks with PTSD, veteran clinics and hospitals, prisons, veterinarian clinics, for women giving birth, for patients before and after surgery, and more...
